Oh my gawd, May bank holiday is almost upon us and promising plenty hangovers. In Brighton, of course, it’s the opening weekend of the Brighton Festival and Fringe, Brighton Open Houses, HOUSE and – most appropriately for G&P – it’s the Foodies Festival on Brighton & Hove Lawns.
I went to the Foodies Festival with my aunt Sarah last year and had a ball – you can read all about it here. Most notably, it’s where I met the fabulous Mandy Shaw who later taught me all about how to make your own cheese. I’ll be returning to the festival this year, which runs from Sat 3 to Mon 5 May, as the event promises a whole lot.
Returning for this year’s event are the Foodies Festival demos from top chefs including Bake Off and Masterchef winners. Then there’s the eclectic Producers Market and Street Food Avenue, music stage and city beach. A bonus is that visitors can disguise (or excuse) their gluttony by taking part in the range of educational activities on offer at the foodies ‘theatres’, that offer workshops and talks on everything from cooking with kids to baking and preserving, beer, spirits and cocktails.
New to the 2014 event is the Chilli Food Market (complete with chilli eating competition), BBQ Arena and Real Ale and Cider Farm. In short, don’t go to Foodies Festival expecting not to be tempted to eat and drink MORE THAN A HUMAN BEING EVER RIGHTLY SHOULD.
I have five pairs of tickets for the Brighton Foodies Festival 2014 (worth £24 a pair) to give away. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below or share this post with friends on Twitter (make sure you include the tag @GannetandParrot). The competition closes at 2pm tomorrow, Friday 2 May, when five winners will be picked at random and their names put on the guest list for their preferred day of entry.
